Perils of Stitching
Given the benefits of
stitching, why doesn't everyone use photographic stitching to obtain
better photos? The answer is that if you don't avoid certain
pitfalls, the seams between photos may be visible. Well done
stitched photos show no evidence whatsoever of the stitching process
-- the seams are totally invisible. It may take a little
practice to take photo sequences which can be converted into totally
seamless panoramic or high-resolution photos. The photos at
right show a drastic variation in exposure from photo to
photo. Our stitching program managed to successfully smooth
out the variations, but stitching programs are more reliable if
there are not any substantial exposure variations.
